About the event
An evening of fun and creative upcycling.
Create your very own ‘Cooking for Freedom’ apron!
Join designer and dressmaker Rose as we make aprons together from repurposed and recycled materials.
Choose from a colour palette of materials to upcycle and we will guide you through the process of cutting out and hand sewing your very own kitchen apron. Add pockets, badges, embellishments and the Cooking for Freedom logo to make it a one of a kind creation. Your ticket price includes all materials provided, and goes directly towards Cooking for Freedom.
About Cooking for Freedom
Cooking for Freedom is a grassroots collective led by current and former international protection applicants in Dublin. Branching out from the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (who we still work closely with), we were founded in November 2017 in response to the lack of appropriate cooking facilities and nutritional food provided by the state in DP and emergency accommodation centres, including those for Ukrainian refugees.
Food is powerful. Cooking gives us both pleasure and a sense of purpose, and our communal cooking brings us together despite the barriers we face. We currently have 2 communal cooking spaces in central Dublin that our members in direct provision and emergency accommodation use several times a week. The money we fundraise goes directly to covering the cost of ingredients for our members so their membership is completely free, and can feed entire families with nourishing, sentimental meals that the state does not.
For 2023, we will share recipes and cooking tutorials with our supporters as a way of thanks on the Patreon, and will update our social media regularly - links to which can be found here. We also welcome partnerships / collaborations with local groups and businesses who share the same principles as us.
